Sergio Fajardo Valderrama is a politician and mathematician from Colombia. From 2012 to 2016, Fajardo was the Governor of Antioquia. He entered politics for the first time in 2003, when he was elected Mayor of Medellin, Colombia’s second-largest city and the capital of Antioquia. In 2010, Fajardo was Antanas Mockus’s vice presidential nominee, finishing second after losing a runoff against Juan Manuel Santos and Angelino Garzon.

Fajardo describes himself as a pragmatic politician with no particular ideology, and political analysts and media outlets in Colombia describe him as a centrist politician who is not affiliated with Colombia’s traditional parties. In July 2017, Fajardo announced his intention to run for president in the 2018 elections. Fajardo finished third in the first round of Colombia’s presidential election in 2018. Fajardo announced in March 2022 that he would launch his presidential campaign for the upcoming Colombian presidential election in 2022. In the first round, he came in fourth place.
