This week, a Florida man was detained for reportedly threatening in a text message to “make Texas and Highland Park” look like “child’s play,” alluding to recent mass shootings that have claimed the lives of numerous people.

Ira Dennis Crosser Jr., 55, was apprehended at his Cape Coral residence and is accused of making a written threat to commit a terrorist act or a mass shooting.

After a concerned person forwarded the text message to law authorities on Thursday afternoon, police were first made aware of the threat.

Crosser allegedly texted, “Keep an eye out on the press I’m fixing to make Texas and Highland Park look likes (sic) child’s play.”

In a recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, a shooter opened fire at Robb Elementary School, killing 19 children and two adults.

On July 4th, a shooter opened fire at a parade in Highland Park, Illinois, killing seven people.

At the moment, Crosser is being held at the Lee County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, “the investigation indicated that the reporting party was concerned based on Mr. Crosser’s stated violent inclinations and access to weapons that he could carry out these threats.”

He must return to court on August 8. It wasn’t immediately apparent if Crosser had a lawyer who could represent him.
