Alfred Benjamin Crentsil Jr., better known by his stage name AB Crentsil, was born in 1943 in Prestea, Western Region of Ghana, to the late Esi Yaaba and Alfred Benjamin Crentsil Sr.

He attended Takoradi Methodist Primary and Rev. Cleveland Middle School for his elementary and middle school studies, respectively.
