White returned to referee the match between Chris Jericho and Christian at WrestleMania XX in 2004. However, he reinjured his shoulder during the last three counts of the bout, causing him to retire as a referee.

On January 9, 2009, White was fired by WWE, ending a 24-year career with the business.
