Sven Magnus en Carlsen is a five-time World Chess Champion and a Norwegian chess grandmaster. He has also won three World Rapid Chess Championships and five World Blitz Chess Championships. Since July 1, 2011, he has held the top spot in the FIDE world chess rankings, trailing only Garry Kasparov in time spent as the world’s highest rated player.

His peak rating of 2882 is the highest ever recorded. He also holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak in classical chess at the elite level. Carlsen, a chess prodigy, won first place in the Corus chess tournament’s C group shortly after turning 13 and was named grandmaster a few months later.
