Justin Trudeau Early Life

On the afternoon of January 16, 1972, Trudeau was baptized at Ottawa’s Notre Dame Basilica, with his father’s niece Anne Rouleau-Danis as godmother and his mother’s brother-in-law Thomas Walker as godfather.

Trudeau’s parents divorced on May 27, 1977, when he was five years old, and his father was given primary custody. For many years afterwards, there had been persistent rumors of a reconciliation. His parents eventually reached an amicable joint-custody agreement and learned to get along quite well.

His father announced his intention to resign as Prime Minister on February 29, 1984. From his birth until his father’s government was defeated in the federal election on May 22, 1979, Trudeau lived at 24 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, the official residence of Canada’s prime minister.
