Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has denied rumors on social media that the Achimota Forest Reserve near Accra had been sold.
He stated that the natural resource was not and would not be sold.
On Tuesday, May 17, word spread on social media that the government had sold the Achimota Forest.
Is Achimota forest for sale?
According to reports, President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo granted Executive Approval for the Forest Reserve area to be rebuilt and sold for other purposes. The Forest Reserve land has been classed as a protected National Forest Reserve since 1930.
Kofi Bentil, Vice President of Imani Africa and a private legal practitioner, wrote on Facebook, “Bye Bye Achimota Forest.” Bye, Bye Achimota Forest. Sold! What is this??!”
