Police reported that former Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber III passed away from heat stroke on Monday.

The Collin County medical examiner determined that Barber’s death was an accident, according to a statement from the Frisco police department in the Dallas suburb. The 38-year-death old’s was not further explained by a police spokesperson, and a message from The Associated Press was not immediately answered by the medical examiner’s office.

On June 1, police doing a welfare check discovered Barber dead at a Frisco apartment he was rumored to be renting.

Dallas selected the former Minnesota Golden Gopher in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft, and he played with the Cowboys for six seasons. Despite only starting one game each of the two seasons, he scored 24 touchdowns in total. In 2006, Barber ran for 654 yards and a career-high 14 touchdowns.

Barber made his only Pro Bowl in 2007, when he rushed for a career-high 975 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. From that point on, his role and output decreased, and in his final season with Dallas in 2010, he recorded career lows in carries, yards, and touchdowns. 2011 saw Barber’s final campaign with Chicago.
